He was the son of James and Ada Brewer of Nottingham and the brother of William Henry, Alice May and Arthur Cecil Brewer. In 1911 they lived at 19 Herbert Street St Ann's Nottingham.
In 1911 he made cardboard boxes.

10th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Norman Brewer enlisted at Derby and served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 14th July 1915 and died of wounds on 16th April 1916 and is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery, Nord, France.
