Son of Mr. Arthur Soles, of 26, Abbott St., Nottingham (CWGC). Arthur was 13 at the time of the 1911 census; he had a younger sister, Florence, aged 9.
Member of 2nd Nottingham Company Boys' Brigade (Dakeyne Street Lads' Club).

Private William Soles, served with the 1/9th Battalion Royal Scots, he was killed in action on 1st August 1918. He is buried in Raperie British Cemetery, Villemontoire. (grave ref II.D.7)
In memoriam published 1st August 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “SOLES. – In loving memory of Pte. W. Soles, killed in action August 1st, 1918.
