He was the son of Thomas Charles and Charlotte Newberry. He married his wife Bertha Emma Withall at Nottingham on 27th September 1902 , they lived at 7 Lady Croft Ave, Hucknall and had three children , Nora born 18th January 1903 ,Freda Elizabeth born 5th September 1911 and Mary born 8th November 1915, all of them were born in Hucknall. In the 1911 census Thomas and his family are living at 81 Derbyshire Lane, Hucknall , he is shown as Thomas Newberry 33 yrs a coal miner , he is living with his wife Bertha 32 yrs and their daughter Nora 8 yrs. At the time of his death his widow Berta Emma Newberry was living at 30 Derbyshire Lane Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire. His probate which was proven in Nottingham on 16th April 1917, shows him as Thomas Goodacre Newberry of 7 Ladycroft Ave, Hucknall, Private in HM Army died 28th February at Horton Bradford, his effects of 3177 2 shillings and 5 pence were left to Bertha Emma Newberry his widow.

Driver Thomas Goodacre Newberry attested on 24th June 1916 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 38 years and nine months, his occupation as a traveller and his address as 7 Ladycroft Ave, Hucknall , his next of kin was his wife Bertha Emma of the same address. He was placed into the reserves and on 1st February 1917 he was called up and posted to the Army Service Corps whom he joined at their Depot at Bradford. Within 6 weeks of joining on 18th February 1917 he was admitted to the War Hospital at Bradford with acute pneumonia. He was treated at the hospital until his death at 0600 hrs on 28th February 1917, his relatives were present at this time. His body was returned to his family home and he was buried with full military honours on 5th March 1917 at Hucknall Cemetery and is buried in A section South 701.
