He was the son of William and Lizzie Brown and the brother of John William (Billy) Brown. They lived at 9 Saxon Place, Alfred Street, Nottingham. His brother Private JW Brown, 2/6th Sherwood Foresters, was killed on 26 September 1917 aged 23 (Tyne Cot Memorial).

Private Percy Brown, 10th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, was killed in action on 13th February 1917 he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged) 8 March 1917: 'Brown. Killed in action February 13th 1917, Private Percy Brown, Sherwood Foresters, age 19, son of William and Lizzie Brown of 9 Saxon Place. Father, mother, Billy in France.' (See family history, Billy was killed in September the same year).
