He was the son of Josiah and Emma Clarke and the brother of Diana, Harold, Polly, Jack Lewis, Tommy, Lily and Jack Clarke. In 1911 they lived at 4 Claude Street Old Lenton Nottingham. He was the husband of Alice (née Spick) Clarke and the father of Alice Emma Clarke (born 9/10/1913).
He was a tobacco factory caretaker in 1911 and a painter on enlistment.
