William Palmer was the son of Herbert James Palmer and Emma Ward who married at Nottingham in 1880. Their children included: Emma (b.1880/d.1882), Florence (b.1884), Leonard (b.1888), Minnie (b.1890), Beatrice (1894) and William James (b.1896). There was another child, Alice, born in 1879 before her parents married, but it is not clear what subsequently happened to her. The Palmer family lived at: 1 Osberton Street, Basford [C.1881]; 54 Randal Street, Hyson Green [C.1891]; 24 Nutthall Road, Bobbersmill [C.1901, C.1911 & n.e.p.26.4.1918]. Herbert James Palmer, a baker who employed his two sons in his own business, died at Nottingham, aged 56, in 1916. Army records for 1921 gave Emma Palmer’s address as 10 Wordsworth Road, Radford. She died at Nottingham in 1927, aged 68.
